नदियाँ, जंगल, पहाड़ आदि सभी कुछ प्रकृति के अंग हैं। प्रकृति, जिसे ईश्वर की श्रेष्ठ कृति कहा जाता है, के साथ छेड़-छाड़ की एक मर्यादा है। इसका उल्लंघन करने पर गंभीर परिणाम भुगतने पड़ते हैं। हमारे यहाँ बुजुर्गों द्वारा छोटों को आशीर्वाद देते समय यह कहने का प्रचलन था कि जब तक इस पृथ्वी पर नदियों, जंगलों और पहाड़ों का साम्राज्य रहेगा, तुम्हारी कीर्ति अक्षुण्ण रहेगी। दुर्भाग्यवश हम इस परंपरा को भूल गए। नयी पीढ़ी को हमेशा इस बात को याद दिलाया जाता था कि उनके लिये इन जंगलों, पहाड़ों और नदियों का क्या महत्व है। प्रकृति को एक सीमा से अधिक अतिक्रमण सहने की आदत नहीं है और वह इसका बदला जरूर लेती है और इसे बर्दाश्त कर पाना सबके बस की बात नहीं है। हमें कम से कम इतना प्रयास तो करना ही चाहिए कि जो संसाधन और ज्ञान हमें पूर्वजों से मिले हैं, उन्हें अगली पीढ़ी को सुरक्षित कर उन्हें सौंप दें। पुस्तक में संकलित आलेखों के जरिये समाज तक यही संदेश पहुंचाने का प्रयास किया गया है।

An Initiative of Ganga Resource Centre, Bihar ————————- The mission to preserve the river Ganges and empower vernacular people by providing a means to earn their livelihood became a reality. ————————— Floral offerings are commonly used in religious ceremonies and are a symbol of devotion and respect, therefore, temples generate a large amount and variety of flower waste. When not properly disposed of, temple waste, including floral waste, can end up in landfills or water bodies, where it can cause environmental problems. Discarded floral waste can also harm wildlife, clog drainage systems, and contribute to water pollution. To the uninformed, the idea of further using wasted flowers seemed ludicrous. We had to toil to convey our idea of recycling the temple waste because nobody was willing to take it seriously or give up their floral waste. But our simple idea became a roar once it set rolling. We spent hours experimenting, meeting various stakeholders and pitching the idea of managing temple waste in the country. A year and a half and countless hours in a makeshift laboratory later, flowercycled incense was conceived and crafted. The mission to preserve the river Ganges and empower vernacular people by providing a means to earn their livelihood became a reality.
